About Susan Weiner
Susan L. Weiner, PhD, founded the Children's Cause for Cancer Advocacy
(originally named The Children's Cause, Inc.) in 1999 to give voice to
the concerns of childhood cancer patients, survivors and their families
and empower them to take on leadership roles in pediatric cancer
advocacy. Dr. Weiner, whose child was a 13-year cancer survivor, has
been key in bringing childhood cancer to the forefront of the national
cancer policy agenda. She worked as a childhood brain tumor and
children's disability advocate for many years before establishing CCCA.
Her work includes service on numerous national boards and committees
including the TARGET Subcommittee of NCI’s Board of Scientific Advisors,
Brain Tumor Funders’ Collaborative, Children's Brain Tumor Foundation,
and the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Human Research Protections.
Dr. Weiner is also the founder of the Mary McDowell Center for Learning,
an independent school in New York City for children with learning
disabilities.
