    <title>Take Action to Prevent Future Drug Shortages</title>

    <summary type="html"><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: center; "><em><a href="#alert">Jump to Action Alert Form</a></em></p><p>Dear Childhood Cancer Advocate:</p><p>You have likely heard the alarming reports that have surfaced in recent weeks of hospitals across the country experiencing a severe shortage of cancer drugs, including some critical to successfully treating children with cancer.  Many hospitals and clinicians have reported shortages of preservative-free methotrexate, a drug that is essential to the treatment of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and osteosarcoma.</p><p>On February 21, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that a complete shortage of methotrexate has been averted due to a series of actions taken by the Agency, industry and other stakeholders.<script type="text/javascript">

In addition, Hospira released additional supplies of the drug, which are currently being shipped to hospitals and treatment centers around the country.  FDA also noted that several other manufacturers have ramped up production to meet patient needs.<p>&nbsp;</p></div><p>While children with cancer and advocates won a battle this week – the drug shortage crisis continues, and <strong>immediate action is needed to prevent future shortages</strong>.
